When my friend Wendy bought a new house, I thought I’d give her book a new house too, so I rebound her paperback of short stories and mailed it as a housewarming gift.
I wanted to match the paperback cover as close as possible, like you’d just slipped off the dust jacket and this was what lay underneath. I used to work at Kinko’s in college, so I am well-versed at matching fonts, which made replicating the design fairly easy.
I didn’t splurge on heat-resistant tape though, which is why the HTV type on the spine is a bit crooked. *sigh* The motion I made with the iron must have shifted the text, and I didn’t notice until it was solidly adhered. I considered trying to fix it somehow, but figured that would turn into a mess that drew even more attention to it, so I left things as-is.
This was actually my second attempt at this rebind because the first one failed for different reasons: the main one being inexperience. Ultimately, it became the third and fourth bookbinding I ever completed. It would have been the fifth one too if I hadn’t run out of pink fabric, but I couldn’t bear to visit Joann a third time. Instead, I accepted my limitations as an artisan and mailed it as-is.
Wendy loved it, so I was probably being too hard on myself!
